On being halfway out of the woods

I passed the halfway point of Independent Flight tonight – really I probably passed it a couple nights ago, but tonight was the first time it really felt that way. For the writers reading this, you know how that feels. You have all your characters in play, you have the situation and the major conflict chugging away, and a big portion of it becomes sustaining energy levels and setting up the stakes for the finish.

And the nice thing about writing a piece in an ongoing series, which Independent Flight is, is that you don’t have to say “good bye” to these characters when you’re done, so the melancholy nature of passing the halfway point is better – you’re just saying “see you later” to them.
